Updated paperback edition - A must for anyone with even a passing interest in the Hawks.

Includes an exclusive interview with Hawkwind leader Dave Brock - conducted especially for this update - and also reveals details of their new album, 'Take Me To Your Leader'.

A 'warts and all' look at the band's history (beyond the 'Sonic Assassins' book), focusing "...more on the human and emotional side of things". As the blurb goes onto say... "It ventures in great detail into controversial issues such as the court cases over Hawkestra and xhawkwind, and it includes some extraordinarily personal and surprising revelations from various band members...", and boy does it ever - They'll probably all disown it, if they haven't already. A rather wonderful tale and reminds me that Hawkwind are more colourful reincarnated C17th pirates than anything else - last one standing and all that... (where's the treasure buried?)... oh, all right space pirates, if you must.

The author, Carol Clerk, worked for Melody Maker for over 20 years, currently writes for 'Classic Rock' and 'Uncut' and has written or ghost-written 11 other books. And with those journalistic qualifications she has moved from band member to ex-band member skillfully weaving a page-turning version of the band's history by presenting each member in turn with what another has said about them, or this or that situation - and at times this illicits some pretty robust responses. I don't know how close it is to 'the truth', if such a thing can be said to exists, but it makes for a dramatic and entertaining read. And sends you back to the albums with new ears.
