Soft Machine Turns On Volume 1 Voiceprint VP231CD || £10.64 $ € ¥ + p+p +tax Click for big pic Unreleased and live '67 era Softs Really only here for the tracks with Daevid's participation because despite of all the modern technology thrown at it the sound quality of some tracks is dire, especially tracks 9-14, 15 & 16 which were recorded live at the Middle Earth and Speakeasy in late '67. Mercifully the Daevid tracks aren't too bad and the first one, a much longer take of one of the famous Soft's Demos, is actually quite good with his guitaring to the fore (even though he himself hates his playing on the demos). I don't know if such CDs as this do more harm than good to memories of the early Softs. I wouldn't have released it myself, but the musicians will see a bit of money from the sale, even if they didn't actually authorize the release. And you don't have to go and buy an expensive bootleg to find out what they sounded like. There are a few nice '67 Soft Machine photographs all including Daevid, and some historical liner notes by Brian Hopper in the booklet. Track Listing: Total Runtime 73.09
